Getting ReadyWe need to build the
soil in the 2nd and 3rd sites.
Here's one of our
mulch piles. -
Prepping the NewspaperWe spread a few layers
of newspaper to stifle
the existing weeds.
However, we can't
use the glossy pages
so our crew is separating
them from the newsprint. -
Newspaper Layer in Garden #2The second garden site
is almost covered!
Great job crew! -
The First Leaves and Mulch LayerWe then added a
layer of leaves and mulch on
top of the newsprint.
This will compost to
make healthy soil. -
LayersHere you can see
the first layers
of newsprint, leaves,
and mulch. We're going
to have very
nutritious soil! -
Soil LayerWe then covered
the newsprint, leaves,
and mulch with some
top soil. -
RecyclingWe had lots of
newspaper left as well as
the glossy pages we
didn't use....so we
recycled it! -
What a crew!More than 15 people
came to help with our
edible garden expansion!
We got so much done
in a short time!
Great job folks! -
Smoothing the soilWe smoothed the top soil
to cover the other layers.
All the layers will
compost to make wonderful
soil for happy plants. -
Final Mulch LayerWe covered everything
with another layer of
mulch. This helps
hold it all in place
and will help hold
in moisture. -
The Fruit PlotThis garden space will
be our 'fruit plot.'
We planted blueberry
bushes and will add
banana trees and
creeping raspberries
in the Spring. -
Finishing TouchesOur helpers are
putting on the finishing
touches. What progress!
What a crew!
