It's done! ...but there's always a few more small projects.
Come lend a hand!
Phase II of the Green Building Adventure will be an intensive hands-on educational adventure. A select group of students will participate in this exciting green building project. Students will meet once a week for twelve weeks, and during that time, they will research various building techniques, alternative energy, materials, and more. They will then use their new knowledge to design the new office space!
Students will have creative freedom when designing the new structure. However, they will have to include several components:
A variety of professionals will serve as mentors to the students throughout the designing and building process. Two contractors have agreed to serve as the primary advisors throughout the project and additional guest speakers will assist. Included in the list of individuals who have expressed an interest in speaking with the students are an electrician, a plumber, and the Director of Planning and Development for Pickens County (who is responsible for permitting and building codes).
Students will be required to contribute a minimum of 40 hours to assist with the construction of the green building. And they will receive community service credit for the time spent helping!
